 About our Chef

Head Chef Anthony Martelli

"I had a great interest in art but I was unable to express myself and food gave me the opportunity and ability to show the world the kind of art I can create." Head Chef Anthony Martelli

Head Chef Anthony Martelli’s passion for cooking started at a very young age. He is the youngest and only boy in the family. Refusing to eat the food prepared by his two older sisters, he cooked for himself and realized his skill and passion for cooking. His true idol and inspiration was his mother.

His favourite memory was assisting his mother in the kitchen turning the pasta machine. As a true Italian, the tradition of roasting red peppers, jarring tomato sauces, wine making, and stuffing sausages was and remains his favourite things to do. The passion and love for food is instilled in him and admittingly the passion and love will never die. The assurance that people are fed with good food gives Chef Anthony great satisfaction.

Beginning his career at the tender age of 17, his first taste of formal chef training started in a co-op program–new in the GTA at the time–which quickly lead to his interest into the food industry. His apprenticeship began at The Sutton Place Hotel in Toronto. At the age of 20, he travelled to Switzerland working in a family restaurant learning the home-style Swiss-French cuisine. He ventured to western Canada in Vancouver working at a European style boutique hotel – Wedgewood Hotel. Missing his home and family in Toronto, he returned and worked for the Park Plaza Hotel cooking up classic French cuisine. Other notable kitchens include the Air Canada Centre and the South Seas Resort in Florida.

Golf was another passion. His interests to combine both passions led him to the golf club industry. This new direction lead him into the kitchens at Devils Pulpit G.C.C., Board of Trade G.C.C., Carrying Place G.C., Magna G.C. and Oakdale G.C.C.

Today Chef Anthony heads Ladies’ kitchen with over twenty three years experience from both private clubs and hotels. His passion and creativity in cooking are evident in the masterful menus that is offered at the Club. Anthony’s charismatic and fun approach is loved and enjoyed by our Members and guests.
